What You Need to Know to Adopt from Lucky Pup Rescue

What you need to know to adopt from Lucky Pup Rescue
  • We do not have a physical location for you to go and visit a dog before you apply to adopt. Some of our dogs are local, and others are in our partner shelters waiting for transportation to New England.
  • We do not do "direct adoptions" right off the transportation vehicle. It takes a rescued dog at least a week to settle in and show you his or her true nature. It's not fair to either of you to commit before you know each other.
  • Our application process may take a week or two depending on a variety of factors. Because of this, it's best to get an application started while you wait for a dog that you like. Our dogs are worth it!
  • If you are not willing to wait, please do not fill out an application. Our volunteers put a great deal of time and effort into processing each application, and if you've found a dog elsewhere, their energy could be better spent trying to save another life.
  • After you complete our online application, our volunteers will being checking your references. These references will have to include your landlord if you are a renter and your current or past veterinarian.
  • Once the reference checks are completed, a volunteer will arrange a time with you to come and visit your home. Because of everyone's schedule, this may take some time to coordinate.
  • A dog is not a disposable pet. We look to match the most suitable home to the most appropriate dog. We consider your home, work hours, family members, yard size, and activity level in addition to the dog's temperament, experience with children, and experience with other pets when matching them up with a family. As a result, we have an extremely low return rate and try to ensure that the pup that goes to your home will not just be a pet, but a family member - forever.

Petunia - Featured Lucky Pup

Summer is right around the corner, and here comes Petunia! Pretty Petunia is around 6 months old (as of April) and weighs around 30 pounds. She is sweet, a tall, lanky girl who is rather laid back. She has been around children and does very well with them. She loves to give kisses and to run and play. Pretty Petunia has arrived in Maine! Her foster mom says she is doing well and is working on some basic training commands. She is also great on the leash. We feel she would do best in a quieter setting as she is somewhat overwhelmed with city noises. She would love to have another dog to play with in her adoptive home, and also adores children. ...
